DISCO’s Migrant and Refugee Youth Support Program (MaRYS)

DISCO is excited to announce that in December 2022 the organisation was informed that it had been successful applying for funding under the Skilling Queenslanders for Work funding program.

The organisation applied for financial assistance under the Community Works Skills funding stream to deliver services to migrant and refugee youth in the Toowoomba community.

The Migrant and Refugee Youth Support Program (MaRYS) seeks to assist young migrants and refugees aged 15-24 to undertake training and be supported into employment.

CEO Mike Paton stated:

“DISCO is excited to have received endorsement from the Queensland Government this year to work with 34 migrants and refugees to be assisted to obtain Certificate 3 qualifications and then be supported into employment with local employers. Our program will link youth with mentors in our organisation and in partnership with the migrant and refugee community, we will provide on job support to assist these young men and women to integrate into businesses in our community”.

“We are so excited to be offering a dedicated service and I’m looking forward to working with representatives of Toowoomba’s migrant and refugee community as well as with our local training partner Aurora Training. We are also delighted to have support from St Paul’s Program Lutheran Church who have offered assistance with accommodation as well as assistance from parishioners at the parish” said Coordinator of the MaRYS program at DISCO, Madeleine Thompson.
